Green Machine earns 2nd Place
Congratulations to the Green Machine and the Owlbots! WOODS ACADEMY (FUTURE CAMP COUNSELORS)
On Saturday, January 9, the Owlbots and the Green Machine both competed in the Maryland FIRST Lego League (FLL) Qualifier hosted by Rockville Science Center at The Universities at Shady Grove.
Twenty teams from around the state of Maryland competed for the opportunity to advance to the state competition to be held at University Maryland Baltimore College on March 5, 2016. While neither team advanced, both teams performed well across all judging categories – research, robot design, and core values. The Green Machine even received the 2nd Place Project Award.
The 2015 FLL Trash Trek Challenge encourages participants to explore the fascinating world of trash. The Green Machine focused their research on ways to reduce pizza box trash while the Owlbots developed a machine for detecting and collecting trash found in oceans. In addition, the teams spent numerous hours using LEGO MINDSTORMS technologies to design, build, and program autonomous robots.
Since the 2009-2010 school year, The Woods inaugural Robotics season, at least one Woods robotics team has earned an award at the regional Qualifier and/ or advanced to the Maryland State Championship.
